Domestic Violence

Domestic violence results in physical injury, psychological trauma, and sometimes death. The terrible aftermath of domestic violence can cross generations and truly last a lifetime. It is estimated that more than 2.5 million females experience some form of violence each year. Further, almost 2 out of 3 females in this population have been attacked by a family member or a person with which they are acquainted.

Besides the obvious physical injuries, domestic violence can lead to depression, anxiety, panic attacks, substance abuse and post-traumatic stress disorder. Abuse also might trigger suicide attempts or psychotic episodes.

The nation is launching comprehensive efforts to reduce violence in general and domestic violence as a special initiative, and the Resource Center of Somerset is part of that initiative. We provide safe house shelter, counseling, legal advocacy and support to the victims of domestic violence.
