Holiday Giving 2011

HolidayGiving Programs

October to December 2011

When a victim of domestic abuse leaves an abusive partner, she is usually faced with economic difficulties.   By the time all the bills are paid and their daily living expenses covered, there is little or no money left to spend on their children or themselves, much less on holiday gifts. To ensure that our clients and their children enjoy the holiday season, the Resource Center of Somerset initiated an annual holiday gift program for which we need your support.

There are a number of ways you can opt to help bring the joy of the holidays to our client families.

Adopt A Family:

The Adopt a Family program matches the donor with a client family and provides a wish list for each family member as a guide. This is a great way to support specific families, since they only request items that they wish to have. We ask that all items are NEW, unwrapped and have a non-violent theme.Holiday paper, tape and ribbon donations are also gratefully accepted. We serve people from all religious and ethnic backgrounds, so this is a great project to do as a group among coworkers, religious organizations or family and friends.

General Holiday Gift Donation:

General Gift items are requested for the annual Holiday Gift Boutique set up annually at our Hillsborough location.  The Boutique is for the clients and families who do not participate in the Adopt a Family program and provides an opportunity for them to “shop” (at no charge), selecting items for their children.  And the children are also encouraged to shop for their moms.  Again we ask that all items are NEW, unwrapped and have a non-violent theme.Holiday paper, tape and ribbon donations are also welcome. Please bear in mind that the Boutique serves clients of all religious and ethnic backgrounds, and we are happy to provide a list of items that are in high demand.

Holiday Party:

We host a party for our clients and their families that is a fun night for all, including staff and our volunteers. We seek donations to underwrite the children’s that include face painting, decorating holiday cookies,  ornament making and balloon art.  We also need donations to cover the gifts that Santa brings for all the children (usually gift cards and movie tickets) and to cover the cost of refreshments and holiday decorations. We are delighted that we usually host more than 100 guests and it is always a huge success!

Your generosity and support is greatly appreciated!
