All year long, the staff and volunteers of the Resource Center of Somerset work tirelessly to provide help and hope for people affected by domestic abuse and violence. APRIL

Law Enforcement Domestic Abuse Victim Advocacy Awards

To mark Sexual Assault Awareness Month and Crime Victims’ Rights Week, the Resource Center of Somerset honors members of the law-enforcement community who have gone above and beyond to assist victims of domestic abuse and violence.

Jazz Brunch – April 10 – Sponsored by Verve Restaurant – Somerville, NJ

Live music and a fabulous three course brunch complete with complimentary Memosa await our guests and supporters.  Verve is one of our finest community patrners sponsoring exciting fund raisers throughout the year.  Call Verve at (908) 707-8655 for more information or reservations.

MAY

Derby Day – Sponsored by The Friends of the Shelter – May 7, 2011 – Hamilton Farm Golf Club, Peapack, NJ

The Friends of the Shelter hold this elegant annual event on the day of the Kentucky Derby. Ladies are encouraged to wear picturesque hats for the occasion, which includes cocktails and dinner as well as live and silent auctions. While the race is on the big screen, participants may cheer on their favorites. The Friends of the Shelter, founded in 1987, is an all-volunteer organization of women who share a commitment to assist those who are victims of domestic abuse and violence. Their volunteer service and fund-raising benefit the Resource Center of Somerset.

Tour of Somerville Cycling Series

The Tour of Somerville Cycling Series is an exciting four-day event of competitive cycling for professionals and amateurs over Memorial Day weekend.The  Resource Center of Somerset is the honorary sponsor of the Women’s Kugler Open, held on Monday just before the 50-mile Kugler-Anderson Memorial Tour of Somerville, known as the “Kentucky Derby of Cycling.” The Tour is the oldest bicycle race in the United States and a legend in the lore of bicycle racing.

FORE LOVE GOLF OPEN – May 26, 2011 – Fiddler’s Elbow Country Club, Bedminster, NJ

Our annual Fore Love Golf Open fund-raiser provides participants with an opportunity to play at one of New Jersey’s premier courses. The day of golfing and contests is capped off with a festive cocktail hour and dinner. Proceeds benefit the Resource Center of Somerset.

JUNE

4th Annual Strawberry Festival – June 11, 2011 – Bridgewater United Methodist Church – 4 pm to 8 pm – rain or shine

The Bridgewater United Methodist Church, 651 Country Club Road, Bridgewater, is sponsoring a Strawberry Festival – serving fresh strawberry shortcake, delicious homemade baked items, meatball subs, hot dogs, chips and beverages.  All proceeds will be generously donated to the Resource Center of Somerset.  For more information, you may call: (908) 526-1414

JULY/AUGUST/SEPTEMBER

Crabfest – July 21 -23, 2011 – Verve bistro – bar – lounge, downtown Somerville

Special Crabfest event Sunday, July 31 $75 per person

Who needs to journey down to the Maryland shores this summer when you can make your way to Main Street in Somerville for the best crabs around!  The 12^th annual Verve Crabfest will run from July 21-23, and this year once again benefits the Resource Center of Somerset, a non-profit agency that empowers victims of domestic abuse in SomersetCounty.

Help us provide school supplies for the children of our clients.

OCTOBER

Candlelight Vigil – October 6, 2011

October is Domestic Abuse Awareness Month. Each year, the Resource Center of Somerset holds a Candlelight Vigil on the steps of the Historic Somerset County Courthouse commemorate those who have died as a result of domestic violence in New Jersey and to celebrate those who have survived.

Starry Night – October 14, 2011

A Starry Night in London! Starry Night is our premier fund-raising event of the year. This sophisticated gala dinner dance to benefit the Resource Center of Somerset is considered one of the most glittering and enjoyable events in Somerset County.

NOVEMBER

Author’s Luncheon – Sponsored by the Friends of the Shelter

TBA - This year, the Friends will have another wonderful and exciting luncheon with a popular author from our area.  Please, plan to attend and support the efforts to help victims and survivors of domestic abuse in Somerset County.

Holiday Gift Drive Starts

DECEMBER

During the holidays, the community contributes to our Holiday Store, where clients can “shop” for gifts without spending a penny. Many people and companies participate in our Adopt-A-Family program, in which they provide the items on a family’s wish list. We also appreciate contributions for our annual Holiday Party for our clients, with fun, games and gifts, and a special visit from Santa.
